📚 What is a data breach and what can attackers do with it?

A data breach happens when an attacker gains unauthorised access to a company's user database and steals credentials. The stolen data — often including emails, usernames, and password hashes — is then sold on dark-web markets or leaked publicly.

Attackers use these lists in credential stuffing attacks: automatically trying each email/password combination against other sites like banks, email providers, and social media. If you reuse passwords, one breach unlocks many accounts.

The fix: a unique, randomly generated password for every site. A password manager makes this effortless.
